RUMBAK VALLEY

If you want a relatively easy and short trek that still gives you a sense of remote Ladakh, the Rumbak valley trek is ideal.

SEASON: May - October

MAX. ALTITUDE: 4900m

NUMBER OF DAYS: 5 days

HIGH PASSES: Stok La (4900m)

TREK GRADIENT: Moderately challenging

Day 01: Participants arrive in Leh.

Day 02: Leh - Spituk - Zingchen
Duration: 5 hours

The first part of the trek is by road to the village of Spituk. What follows is a long barren stretch before entering the lush Zingchen valley where the Rumbak river meets the Indus.

Day 03: Zingchen - Rumbak (3900m)
Duration: 4 hours

After Zingchen the trail enters the Hemis National Park where you might get a rare glimpse of snow leopards or blue sheep. A gradual climb takes you to the village of Rumbak.

Day 04: Rumbak - Mancarmo (4200m) via Stok La (4900m)
Duration: 6 hours

The trail starts off with a gradual climb that becomes steep towards the pass. On the other side of the pass is the meadow of Mancarmo, which is also the approach to the Stok Kangri peak.

Day 05: Rumbak - Mancarmo (4200m) via Stok La (4900m)
Duration: 2 hours

A short two hour walk will bring you to the picturesque Stok village from where a vehicle will pick you up and drop you back to Leh.
