Snow Leopard Trail – Rumbak Valley

Search for the elusive snow leopard in the Rumbak valley of Ladakh. These elusive big cats are endangered and can be found in cold, mountainous areas Spiti, Ladakh and Zanskar Himalayas. One of the best places to see snow leopards is in the Hemis National Park in Ladahk. The best times to spot a snow leopard in the wild is in the Ladakhi winters. The snow leopard trek offer you the chance to help research these ‘ghosts of the mountains’ or track them and their prey through the snow.

Rumbak valley is ideal place to use as BC to scout for the snow leopard its a relatively easy and short trek, gives you a sense and feel of remote Ladakh

SEASON: Best sighting are usually in winter Nov – March

MAX. ALTITUDE: 3900m – 4500m

NUMBER OF DAYS: 10 days

TREK GRADIENT: Moderately challenging. (Its the winter cold that is more challenging than the trek itself)

Day 01: Participants arrive in Leh.

Day 02: Leh – Spituk – Zingchen
Duration: 5 hours

The first part of the trek is by road to the village of Spituk. What follows is a long barren stretch before entering the lush Zingchen valley where the Rumbak river meets the Indus.

Day 03: Zingchen – Rumbak (3900m)
Duration: 4 hours

After Zingchen the trail enters the Hemis National Park where you might get a rare glimpse of snow leopards or blue sheep. A gradual climb takes you to the village of Rumbak.

Day 04 – 09: In the Rumbak Valley

Explore the Rumbak valley for the next 6 days in search of the Snow Leopard on foot with your guide. In the process there will also be plenty of opportunity for you to get enthralling insights into local folklore, as well as learn about Ladakhi customs and traditions.

Day  10: Walk back from Rumbak to Zingchen where a vehicle picks us up and we drive back to Leh.
