Introduction to Mountaineering

Overview

The 15 day introduction to mountaineering course for 2012 will be run on the Beas Kund Glacier in the Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. Our training ground will be the Beas Kund Glacier a little ahead of the beautiful mountain Tarn called Beas Kund. The base camp is surrounded with 5000m – 6000m peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Shitidhar, Manali peak, Ladakhi, Friendship peak, Priyadarshini etc. During the 15-day program, you will be introduced to the basics of ice and snow craft and how to use mountaineering gear. You will also practice under the supervision of a qualified instructor. At the end of the program, at the end of the program we will go for do a height gain on one of the nearby peaks. The peak to be climbed will be decided in the field by the lead instructor based on the group dynamics.

Course Target:

The program is designed for novices who have no experience to High Altitude Mountaineering. The course objective is to initiate a novice into our world mountaineering.

Reaching Manali:
By Road: There are Lots of Buses that operate between Both Delhi and Manali. By Air: Indian Airlines and Kingfisher operate flights everyday between Delhi and Kullu.

The Program 
Day 1: Arrive in Manali
Day 2:
 Pre-departure preparations
Day 3: 
Drive to Solang nulla and trek to Dhundi.
Day 4: 
Dhundi to Base camp at Bhakarthach or Bhojpatar. 
Day 5-14: 
Program curriculum including snow craft and ice craft, cramponing, snow and ice anchors and belays, glacier travel, self arrest, crevasse rescue, ice climbing, establishment of high camps and height gain.
Day 15:
 
Return to Manali by evening.Reaching Manali.

Cost Includes:
1. Camping Tents, Kitchen tents, Sleeping bags (Holofill) and Carry mats All technical climbing gear.
2. Nutritious, high calorie food will be served. Dhundi to Dhundi
3. All instruction for the Mountaineering course.
4. Cook and camp helpers until base camp.
5. Horses carry loads on the route until base camp.
6. Transport between Manali and Solang in Jeeps.
7. All technical climbing gear.

Cost Excludes:
- All expenses of personal nature like drinks, tips, telephone calls, mineral water etc.
- Accommodation and food in Manali.
- Medical and evacuation expenses, we strongly recommend to purchase suitable insurance cover.

Individual gear
All participants will have to carry personal gear (usually 15 – 20 kg)
Porters will carry all other gear upto base camp. During height gain days you will travel as a self contained group.
